Blake's updates!

Things have been busy busy lately! It's been quite the adjustment getting used to South FL, but I'm finally starting learn my way around without constantly using the gps...hurray! Add in a trip to Jax and some house hunting and things have just been plain crazy.

We had Blake's orthopedic appointment and 2 month check up on Monday. Good news, but not quite as good as I'd hoped. The good news is that his hips are 100% done! Downside: four more weeks in a new contraption to make sure nothing regresses. This new brace is definitely a downside, maybe it's just because I'm not used to it yet but to be honest I think I preferred the Pavlik harness. This one is made out of semi-flexible foam with Velcro straps, and basically looks like an extra diaper. It took me about 3 weeks out of the 6 total that he wore the Pavlik harness for me to get used to it; this time around I'll probably just be getting used to it before it gets taken off, lol. Oh well, what can you do. Upside: he can wear his clothes underneath, which eliminates the need to buy super large pants and he can wear his sleepers again! And he can take a real bath.

His pediatric appointment went well! He is a whopping 13.1 pounds (85th percentile) and in the 65th percentile for height. Took his shots like a champ. Such a different experience this time around, having such a chunk baby! Logan was always in the lower percentiles and had more eating/weight concerns. I do have to say that I enjoy having a bigger baby this time around, he is a much better sleeper.

Exploring WPB!

Despite all of Logan's recent terrible two behaviors, this is still my favorite stage by far! He is so fun!! Finally getting into art projects (loves to color with markers, play with play-doh, and paint) and he is so into role playing. He's always getting out his doctor's kit to check on his stuffed dog and baby doll and feeds all of them (and his cars too!).

His vocabulary is still a bit limited but it is growing every day! He has been saying "yes I do" to certain questions, and just the other day he started saying "yes I did" also. So cute! But he also has a bunch of really annoying words that are on repeat ALL the time - crash, car, truck, pieces (usually used to refer to a missing piece in a puzzle or on a toy), choo choo, juice, milk, and snack. Sometimes I swear he sounds like a broken record, lol.

He is also so outgoing! Must have gotten that from his daddy, lol. He wins the hearts of all the old ladies by waving bye to each one he passes. He also has no fear of new situations! Any time he sees a group of kids and a fun place he just runs right in and jumps in the action. Love it!

The moms group here is really nice so far. We went to the Valentine's party at Okeeheelee park, which is a really awesome (Huge!) park with multiple play areas, a lake with paddle boats, bike trail, tennis courts, and nature center. Logan had a good time on the playground! The one benefit to moving is scoping out new places to go - we passed a cool looking park on the way to story time at the Wellington library the other day so I pulled a u-turn and we skipped story time. This park was basically just like Deerwood Rotary in Jax, only bigger! It was also right next to a gigantic city aquatics center.

Yesterday we checked out a program called Little Blessings at the First Baptist Church of Royal Palm Beach. I was a little skeptical at first, but it turned out to be amazing!! It was pretty much just a free version of Gymboree - they led the kids in songs, stories, and dances and brought out stuff to play with - a parachute, beach balls, ride on horses, Pom poms, bean bags, etc! It's twice a week, so we'll definitely be back.

Our apartment is literally in the middle of nowhere...the only stuff around for miles is a Publix shopping plaza, which happens to be about one minute away. I'm looking forward to finding a place to rent that's a little closer to all of the moms group activities! Driving 25 minutes to everything is getting old very quickly!

WPB living

First weekend down, many to go. Living in South FL is definitely going to be an adjustment...if nothing else, the traffic is insanely different from Jax! I never thought I'd say that I miss 295 and 9A! I about had a heart attack driving on 95 the other day (I lost two fingernails from stress, lol) and the turnpike wasn't much better for my blood pressure.

Our first weekend here was spent exploring. Oh, and house hunting! Or should I say townhouse-hunting. Saturday was spent just driving around Jupiter a little, walking around Downtown at the Gardens in Palm Beach Gardens, and eating an early Valentine's lunch at Cheesecake Factory. Logan had a blast chasing some older kids around the grassy area by the fountains after lunch. That kid is such a trip! His newest saying is "Yes I do." It's seriously the cutest thing ever. Blake was a dream baby as usual and slept the entire time.

Today we met up with my old college roomie, Kristyn. We had some good times at FSU together! Anyways, she's working for a realtor here in WPB so she showed up some townhouses in Jupiter today and we went out to lunch. She got to meet my crazy kiddos too. Logan decided she was his new best friend! So fun to hang out with her again!! :)

I'm going to my first WPB mom's group meetup tomorrow morning. Yikes! I'm super nervous. I'm so not good at making new friends! I'm hoping they are all nice :)

We made it...

We finally made the trek down here! Whew! Not such a great car trip (Logan was not the happiest camper, let's just say that!) but we survived. Now comes the monumental task of unloading & unpacking all of our stuff, but for right now I'm sitting my butt on this couch and I'm not moving!!

Thoughts

I've really gotten into the David Crowder Band lately. I don't actually own any of the CDs but I listen to the Pandora station all the time! Hillsong and Matt Maher also have some really good stuff. Some of the songs are ones that I used to hear at Park Avenue, back when I used to be active in their middle school and high school Wednesday night groups. I really miss being a part of a church. One of my goals when we move is to find an awesome church, one that focuses on young families and good worship music. I especially want Logan and Blake to learn about God early in their lives.

Growing up in a church and going to a Christian school were some of the best things my parents have done for me, but sometimes I take for granted the Bible education I received there. It's so easy to listen to sermons and read passages and think how I've already heard that or I've read that before - but not truly taken it to heart. I'm trying to start over and really LISTEN and apply it to my life.

And so it begins...

Our adventure to South Florida begins tomorrow afternoon.

Well, if you want to be technical, I won't officially be there until Friday since I'm making a pit stop in Titusville along the way to visit family and give the kiddos a break from the car. I still can't believe that we're actually leaving, or that tonight is my last night in this house. If only I could just pick up my entire house and move it, backyard and all! At least then I could spare myself from the dreading packing and unpacking.

I literally am so exhausted I could probably sleep standing up! Daniel has turned into a drill sergeant and there is no rest for the weary around here, lol. We've been organizing, cleaning, and packing for the past two weekends straight! Not that you could really tell by the looks of this place, but really I swear we have been working hard! :)

Melissa put together a farewell dinner for me last night at Copeland's restaurant. I had such a good time! BBAT seriously has the best group of girls around. And many thanks to Melissa for planning everything, for being an awesome friend, and making me feel so special! After dinner we stopped at Seven Bridges for drinks. Ironically enough, Seven Bridges was the first restaurant I ever went to in Jacksonville - it was our very first night in our tiny apartment in Bartram Park. Roughly two years and a few months later I went back, but this time to mark our farewell from Jacksonville :(

On the bright side (I'm having to look at the bright side a lot lately to keep from being too sad!), I've always wanted some adventure in my life. When we moved back to Titusville after my graduation, I thought we would be happy there - we had family, friends, new house, good jobs. But there was alway that nagging feeling of boredom. I wanted to see different places, experience living in different places! Maybe I've had that desire for travel ever since we used to sail. Who knows. Now I can add South Florida to my "places I've lived in" check list...hello, adventure!! :)

The only constant is change...

A couple days ago I had written about half of a blog entry, and then my iPad magically deleted it. Whoops. So now that I really don't remember what I wrote about, I guess I'll start over.

We finally got approved by Toyota for a temporary three bedroom apartment in West Palm Beach. So for the next three months, that's where we'll be! I'm excited to finally be back in the same place as Daniel :) I know it's only been about two and a half weeks that we've been apart, but it has seemed like a VERY long two and a half weeks (especially since I don't sleep much all of my days seem to run together, haha). I am super nervous about adjusting to South Florida life and making new friends, but I'm sure it will turn out fine. After all, this is our 3rd move in 4 years! Tallahassee to Titusville, Titusville to Jacksonville, and now Jacksonville to West Palm Beach. We should be pros at this by now. Or at least pros at selling houses! We're definitely planning on renting this time around.

Speaking of not sleeping, Blake is actually a much better sleeper than Logan was at his age but when you have a two year old to take care of also it really doesn't matter how much more sleep you're getting. Blake usually goes down around 8ish and sleeps until I'm ready to go to bed (ha ha ha). He then wakes up again around 2-3ish and again around 5-6 am. He seems to fall back asleep in the morning just as I hear "mama, mama, mama" on the monitor from Logan. Let's just say thank goodness for Starbucks coffee in the morning!

So I've been exclusively pumping and it has been going pretty well. We had quite the rocky start to nursing. I might have been more inclined to keep trying at the nursing, but I've been stressed out about enough lately that I decided to cut myself a break and go with what I know I'm good at - pumping! I did it with Logan for 5 months (after 3 months of nursing). A little harder to keep up with a consistent time schedule of pumping this time around, but thankfully I am blessed (or cursed, haha) with an oversupply as usual. Ten minutes of pumping yields me about 16 ounces on average, so I've built quite the freezer stash...at least if my supply does drop due to inconsistent pumping, I should have enough reserves to last for awhile.

On a not-so-baby note, Daniel and I are totally obsessed with the show 'How I Met Your Mother.' I just love Barney, he cracks me up. I know, I'm a total tv show junkie - I really prefer a good series over watching a movie. Streaming netflix is the best thing since sliced bread for me since I have been going through season after season of older shows. Just have to find the ones with subtitles and I'm good to go! My plan for tonight involves an episode or two and a glass of Pinot noir :)
