Week Highlights

Highlights from the week:

*Spending all day Saturday with cousins! All five boys were together at our house for lunch and put on a little singing show. Logan definitely loves to be the center of attention! He watched Sebastian sing for about 5 minutes before he jumped right in to dance and sing "on stage" too :)
*Sunday was spent at Pompano Beach with family again at Titi Monica's timeshare condo. I've never seen Logan so into the pool! He was jumping in and trying to swim to the edge. He had a blast.
*Beer & Brats grilling out Sunday night with Steve & Gretchen and Spence & Shayna. So fun!!
*Beach again on Monday (Memorial Day) in Lake Worth with Steve & Gretchen. Lunch at TooJays! Beautiful weather. Blake LOVES the beach :) He smiles and talks away the whole time we're there. And of course my goofball Logan loves it! Great weekend. Too bad it was over so soon!
*It rained all yesterday afternoon, so I built Logan a little "fort" underneath the dining room table with two sheets. I really didn't expect the fun to last long, but he spent about over an hour pretending to "sleep" (snoring!) and then "eating". I asked him what we were eating (since he expected me to participate in everything he was doing!) and he said "crackers, berries, and water". Okay then!
*He is such a little parrot. I really have to watch what I say now!
*Today was the Downtown @ the Gardens Mommy & Me event. I had so much fun with my little men - riding the carousel and train, getting Logan's arm painted (with Lightning McQueen of course!), watching the fish in the ponds, and sharing a Greek wrap at Field of Greens. Love those little guys!
*I let him pick out a birthday card at Publix for my dad this afternoon. He picked out this hideous card with a big cat on the front that said "I let my cat pick out your birthday card, I hope you like dead mice" and kept saying "Gra!" Umm, no. No ugly cats. What is it with toddlers and cats? Why cats? Cats are so unfriendly. Dogs are a much better choice. Anyways, I told him to pick something else and he went for the Mickey Mouse card. Good boy.

Pure gold

Kids say the darndest things: Logan edition!

Seriously, the kid cracks me up. Here's what went down over the last two days. If I don't write this stuff down I'm gonna forget it!

Me: *yawn*
L: Mama, Tired?
Me: Yeah, I'm really tired. I would like to take a nap.
L: Nope. I up.
Me: I know, you're up. That mean I don't get to take a nap.
L: Yup.

Thanks, Logan. Thanks for rubbing it in that I will probably never ever get an afternoon nap again, lol!

We were building "owers" (towers) with Legos this afternoon when I asked Logan if he wanted to make a boat instead. "Yeahhhh!" he said. So once he built his boat, I asked him if it was a sailboat or a motorboat. "Nope, barge." Ok, barge it is! He then proceeded to put an imaginary lego "at" (hat) on all of his barges, only to later add a Lego block "ish" (fish) on top of all the hats. Where do they get this stuff? Pure gold I tell ya.

Ah, and just today while we were on the porch (we go through a lot of activities in the afternoons when there's no naps involved, lol) he told me something new. He walked over and pounded on sliding glass door.

Me: Are you ready to go inside?
L: No. I busy.

Hah. That's a new feeling, being shut out by a two year old.

Oh, and I love when he totally tries to identify things that he doesn't know by connecting it with something he does know. We passed the greeting card section in Target: "Books!" Haha. I can't help but laugh a little.

Last but not least, one more story of the week: except this one goes to Blake. We've been putting him in the bath with Logan to try to consolidate tub times around here, so I had just finished getting him undressed and was ready to put him in the tub.

Me: Daniel, move over so I can put Blake in the tub.
Daniel: No, you'll have to wait. I'm rinsing off Logan's hair.
Me: Alright, but please hurry...I don't want Blake to pee on me.
...Ahh!!
And he peed. Literally seconds after I said that. Sigh. Oh the joys of parenthood!! Daniel and I just about died laughing...and I was soaked in Blake pee.

Sharing is caring

Today was one of those trying days with a toddler. I'm mentally & physically exhausted. I've had to utter these two phrases entirely TOO often today:

"We need to share with others!"
and
"We don't tackle other people!"

Yes, today I was in charge of mediating toy fights and wrestling matches, all instigated by my two year old. Just thinking about that makes me tired again. How many times do you have to say the same thing before it finally sinks in to a tiny brain? Apparently countless times over here. Sigh.

So now I'm laying in bed listening to Pandora and attempting to recharge my batteries and work on my patience for tomorrow. Wish me luck.

Another deep thought post (oh my)

Two things I've been struggling with lately:

Purpose
Peace

Purpose because it's really been on my mind lately...what is the ultimate goal of my life? Sometimes the things I do seem so insignificant compared to all of the many hats that others wear. I know moms that juggle multiple kids, a household, and hold down a side hobby that brings in money to help the family out. Yes, I know that the true purpose of being a stay at home mom is to simply take care of my kids - and I LOVE doing that! But I would also like to contribute to society in some way, besides raising awesome kiddos ;) But since I don't really have any great side talents and I totally suck at selling stuff (you're not interested in my products? Oh? Well, ok. Nevermind then. See? I hate being pushy. It's just not in my nature) I really have no clue what to do about it.

The second thing is PEACE. Yeah, this is a big one. I'm not talking peace sign wrist tattoos or the super cute VW bus in Cars 2 (his name is Fillmore, kind of sad that I know that). I'm talking peace from my anxiety, from my fears. Lately I have felt just totally gripped by my fears and it's gotten a little ridiculous. I can't just go around living life totally terrified of the "what ifs." So - that's been my main goal lately. Letting go of all the things that control me and trusting God that whatever does happen in my life, good or bad, is totally by His plan.

Park Days

The little man had an absolute blast today at the park, and Blake did awesome too. He wore himself out so much that he conked out in his car seat not even five minutes after I pulled out of the parking lot! Whew!

Logan has been into narrarating EVERYTHING these days. He talks non-stop when we're outside, usually about how the birds are up high, flying away, into the sky, and sitting in the trees! It cracks me up. That kid seriously loves birds. But he is also terrified of the dark (I have no idea why, I thought that wasn't something that scared them until they were older?) and the "scary" train in the Little Choo-Choo movie on Netflix.

Oh, random story from about 4 months ago that I forgot to write about:
We were walking through Target, headed towards the checkout, when we passed by the book section. Logan was walking ahead of us but all of the sudden just stopped in his tracks and pointed to a book. "Gra!" he said (that's Logan's name for my dad). Ok, so he thinks someone on one of the books looks like his Grandad. Daniel and I walk a little closer to get a better look. The person on the front of the book...was Steve Jobs! lol. Daniel and I just about died laughing. I guess when you get down to it, my dad and Steve Jobs do have a few similarities - glasses, a beard, they are around the same age...but really, it was hilarious. I told my dad that he's now famous ;)

Daniel is at a business dinner in Pembroke Pines until late late late tonight, so I'm holding down the fort by myself. Guess I should get off the iPad and do something productive.

I PEE, I PEE!

These past few days have been such a whirlwind! One of these days I'll catch my breath. In the past few days, we have managed to fit in a trip to Ikea (hurray for new kitchen table, FINALLY!), lunch with a new friend, Natalie & Gerald came to visit, busy days of playgroups, and a dinner date with Kristyn. Despite my exhaustion, it was all worth it.

So we have been unofficially encouraging the whole potty training thing for the past two weeks. Each night before his bath we plop him down on his frog potty in the bathroom and talk about how he gets COOKIES! lots of COOKIES! if he produces any pee. Most nights he just sits there and flexes his tummy muscles and whines about how he doesn't have a cookie in his hand. But tonight was an exception...

At first he stated that he didn't have to pee, so he wasn't going to be sitting on that potty. Alright, I said, and stepped out of the bathroom for a second to put Blake in his bouncer. When I walked back in, he was pulling his shorts down. I asked him again, and he said he wanted to sit on that frog potty. I'm still not thinking it's a big deal since he sits on it almost every night to no avail. He's doing the usual routine when all the sudden I look over at him and he is peeing! I don't think I've ever been so proud of him, haha. He was pretty proud of himself too! He kept clapping and saying "yay! yay!" He also talked about "I pee, I pee!" and "cook cook!" (cookie) for the next 10 minutes while in the tub. Too cute. We'll see if he can keep it up.

Although I'm not really 100% positive if I'm ready to commit to that whole potty training thing...it sounds like a lot of work, and I really do feel like I already have enough to worry about on my plate. Yikes. Here's to hoping that he will either catch on quick or abandon the idea until he's ready!

On a completely different note, I ordered the Beco Gemini tonight! Although Blake loves the Beco Butterfly most days, he's really all about hanging out on my hip or having me hold him facing forward. He loves to look around and be involved in the action! So if I end up keeping the Gemini, I'll have to figure out a way to sell my Butterfly. I am going to miss my cute Lauren print on the Butterfly though! I got the Foxie Insider print, which is cute...but not quite as pretty as the huge printed panel of the Butterfly.

Whipping this house into shape!

Last night I tried to do the unthinkable - pare down all of our toys. Yes, seriously, our toys are multiplying like rabbits over here. I really don't even know where they all come from! I feel like a new one pops up every couple days. And then it will be promptly covered in stickers by Logan, hahaha. That's the new theme of our life. I find stickers everywhere now...even in the dishwasher.

Thank goodness for cheap stickers at the dollar store. I really don't know how else I would bribe Logan to cooperate some days.

I actually made something that I pinned on Pinterest the other day. Well, I've made more than a few of the food items that I pin (but that's cause I love food too much!) and I think one other project from Pinterest - my clothespin photo frame. But anyways, I made a very plain version of the Message board from A Content Housewife. I've been updating it weekly with random quotes, and it's kinda fun to look at it in the mornings while I'm making my coffee or washing bottles. Best part of all? Daniel mentioned that he has liked looking at it too, mostly just to see what quote I'll put up next! His favorite so far: "The only way to do great work is to love what you do" by Steve Jobs.

More rolling!

Wahoo!! Day 2 of running with Monica. Did a quarter mile more of running than I did last night (up to 1.5 miles) and we walked another mile. If only I could keep this up. Pretty sure as soon as I get back to Wellington I'll lose all motivation since I won't have a running partner :(

Other BIG NEWS: (haha)

Blake rolled over from his back to his tummy!! The other day (4/28) he was rolling from tummy to back, but today he finally rolled from his back to tummy after hours of trying (mostly in the middle of the night, ugh). I'm hoping this means we will have a more peaceful night tonight since he won't be needing to accomplish this milestone at 4 am!?! One can only hope, right!? I weighed him on my parents scale, and it told me 17 lbs...the last couple of times I have weighed him here it has been accurate, but holy cow that seems like way too much. He's not even 4 months yet! I really hope he starts leveling off soon or else I won't be able to carry him around anymore! Yeesh!

Beach season

I just finished reading the most amazing book - Heaven is For Real, by Todd Burpo. It really made me think, and also presented the book of Revelations in a way that makes more sense! Revelations is such a neat chapter but oh-so-hard to understand. This book simplifies things through a child's eyes and gives a glimpse of what Heaven is like.

Blake had his first beach visit yesterday...and today we went again! I seriously love the beach, especially Playalinda. It is one of the only truly "natural" beaches left (no tourism allowed since it is on federal land), making it one of the prettiest East coast beaches. It still doesn't hold a candle to Bahamian beaches, but really, what Florida beach does? ;) Blake did so good both days. He was mostly asleep for his first visit - I put him in the Beco and he "talked" himself to sleep for the two hours we were there. Today he was awake, so I carried him facing out in the K'tan wrap and he loved watching his brother splash around and run like a maniac through the waves (Logan goes crazy at the beach).

I have finally gotten a chance to really work out again since Blake was born! Or more like since I got pregnant with Blake, because I go into hibernation mode as soon as I find out I'm prego. It's my way of justifying being lazy for 9 months. :) Monica and I did 3 miles tonight around the track at Parrish - 1.25 running, 1.75 walking. Not bad for my first time exercising in over a year! I'm pretty sure I'm going to regret it tomorrow though...haha.
