Kid-free Vacay!

For the first time in 5 years, Daniel and I embarked on our first real "kid free" vacation!!

We've gone on a few trips here and there, but they were all one nighters or just quick day trips for anniversaries or friends' events, but no big trips (especially ones that required air travel!). We've had this trip on the books for awhile and somehow it crept up on us. Originally we had planned to do this trip in October but since #3 will be just a wee little guy at that point, we decided to bump it up to the end of January/beginning of February so the grandparents would just have 2 to wrangle (and I wouldn't be enormously pregnant yet, although it kind of feels like I already am).

SO...
Rio Grande, Albuquerque
just us!
Natalie, Gerald, & Athena
FSU friends reunite!
And That is how we ended up with a 4 day kid-free vacation to visit friends in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It was quite the adventure! :) My most recent flights have all been with the kids, so naturally I assumed that a kid-free flight would be easy, if not relaxing. Wrong! Somehow it's still stressful (delayed flights, catching connections, keeping up with luggage) and that I never really anticipated. On the plus side, the actual flight time was pretty relaxing despite being 27 weeks pregnant and stuffed into an airline seat! I managed to read 2 books and enjoy my diet coke and complimentary pretzels all to myself :)

We had an amazing visit in ABQ - hanging out with Natalie and Gerald, eating (or should I really say, gorging ourselves) on delicious New Mexican food (hello, chile rellenos!!), two hiking trips (one resulting in SNOW!!), visiting the Zuni Indian reservation and staying at the Inn at Halona, walking by the Rio Grande, and seeing downtown ABQ. We had great hosts who showed us such a great time!!

As much fun as we had, I did miss the kids a TON! I really expected that, but what I didn't expect was how much I realized that even though I loved my kid-free life, I still prefer my chaotic, noisy, crazy life with 2 boys :) mostly because I get the best of both worlds now - the crazy, chaotic lovable boys during the day and the adult only fun evenings with good friends!

Cheers to an amazing vacation!
